Woodbridge Dress Agency has opened next to Global Trading in Quay St, run by Sharon Jennings.
Hartwood Wood Flooring and Carpets has opened next to Global Trading in Quay St run by Rick Hynard and Stephen Hartwood.
Prezenty has opened at 8 Gobbitts Yard run by Louise Ward including Build-a-bear kits.
Laura Jane Boutique is opening soon near the traffic lights.
Carma Boutique, run by Carol Cole, has had a major refurb and extension to the store in Thoroughfare.
Lloyds Pharmacy is moving into the other side of Woolworths next to fatface.
Specsavers should be opening soon in the old Loaves & Fishes shop.

The new food & drink guide is underway and is looking good. I am getting emails from visitors to Woodbrdige saying how much they like the real shopping guide…..”one of the best”.

AWARDS
Budgens won the EADT Community Heroes Award Business of the Year
Budgens also won the national ACS Community Heroes award. Thanks to all who supported them.
The Crown has been singled out as ‘best pub with rooms’ in the latest Alistair Sawday guide to accommodation in Britain.
Hallmark Cardfayre is one of 5 finalists for the ‘Best Independent Card shop in East Anglia’.

Easter Egg Hunt Saturday 3 April Belated Thanks
Belated thanks to Tulchan who donated prizes for the raffle for the Easter Egg Hunt and to Ipswich24 for the excellent coverage for this event and many others.

Music in the Park
Saturday 12 June sees the return of this popular event sponsored by The Hearing Care Centre. The Ipswich and Norwich Co-op band will play between 2 and 4pm. Charity cake and refreshment stall in aid of EACH Treehouse appeal.

PUBLICITY
The Cross, Vegetarian Restaurant, has been featured on GMTV, The Guardian and Radio Suffolk.
Woodbridge was featured as the No.1 top foodie town in May edition of Country Living.
Holly Blue & Nyx and Carma Boutiques participated in a fashion shoot at the Shire Hall a couple of weeks ago. These photos will be featured in the EADT this week.
FUND RAISING
The Bell and Steelyard raised £390 for Help for Heroes (H4H) on 2 May at the Rat Pack Party.
Barretts of Woodbridge raised over £500 for H4H during March bed month.
The Mayor’s Coffee morning raised £423 for the NSPCC.
Tourism officers visit Woodbridge
This was a huge success. Many officers have emailed me to say they are sending people our way now.
The Thursday Market
The Town Council has been asked by Suffolk Coastal Services not to make spaces available in the car park when the market is running on Thursday as there may be safety issues.

Thoroughfare Works

  • The Thoroughfare will be closed to through traffic on 4 & 11 July to allow for work to be undertaken on a sewer outside 88 Thoroughfare. Traffic will be allowed in at both ends of the street.
  • The kerbstones in the Thoroughfare between the junction with New St and the Red Lion traffic lights will be repaired and replaced in two stages: 18 Oct to 19 Nov and 7 Feb to 11 March 2011 but not including the 2 half term periods within these dates. Resurfacing of this part of the Thoroughfare will then take place on Sunday 13 March 2011. The street will be closed to traffic for some of these dates as required.

Tourists flock to Woodbridge
We are seeing quite large numbers of tourists in the town now especially at weekends. They do comment that they would like more shops to be open on Sundays and Bank Holidays especially when there are events on in the town.

NEWS for TOWN CENTRE BUSINESSES:

  • If you are involved in any sort of business in Woodbridge you must come along to a special meeting arranged by WTCM to celebrate the successes of the town and WTCM and hear about our surprising plans for the Olympics in 2012. Thursday 24 June at 6pm at Adnams Wine Store. If you would like to provide complimentary nibbles at this event please contact me asap. Adnams is supplying the wine!
  • A till raider has now struck in the town 3 times and has not been caught. Keep a good look out. He is tall, mixed race and targets shops with only one assistant.
  • There is a FREE business carbon reduction workshop on Wed 26 May 7.30am to 10am at the Moorish Lounge. Contact Anna Martin on 01394 444257.
  • There will be a window display competition from 9 to 22 July on the theme of Midsummer Night’s Dream in collaboration with Red Rose Chain Theatre Company. More in next Towntalk.
  • The Anglia in Bloom judges are coming to judge our town on Tuesday 13 June in the afternoon. Polish up those flowers!
