Soundwaves

News release from Soundwaves, PO Box 721,Ipswich, Suffolk IP1 9DW

Soundwaves is an exciting new music project about to start in the Suffolk Coastal district.

Aimed at giving young musicians, producers and DJ's an outlet for any music that they make, this unique enterprise will offer them the opportunity to record or submit a track for a compilation album.

Created using entirely local resources, each contributor will be able to work closely with the Soundwaves team and learn how to publicise the release and their involvement in it. They will also be given guidance in how to make the most of having such a useful promotional tool at their disposal.

In addition to the workshops aimed at helping existing bands and musicians within the district, there will also be a programme of regular after-school workshops for beginners, to be held in various schools and youth clubs in Felixstowe, Framlingham, Leiston, Saxmundham and Woodbridge. These will give participants a valuable introduction in rock musicianship, DJing, music technology and much more.

All of the sessions will be led by local musicians and specialists from within the district wherever possible, while young local musicians, technicians and DJ's will be working as ‘shadow tutors’ throughout the whole programme, aiming to eventually realise their full potential of becoming professional musicians and tutors themselves.

As well as the various beginner and developmental workshops, there will also be six live events in the district between November 2006 and October 2007, two of which will feature nationally touring artists (one rock and one urban), which the local acts involved in Soundwaves will be able to support.

Kicking off in October and running for a year, Soundwaves is managed by a group consisting of local school teachers and extended schools officers, youth workers, the Suffolk Coastal district council Arts Officer and the Amplifier Project Officer. It is offering taster sessions at schools and youth groups, scheduled for the week beginning Monday16th October 2006, while the first live event is due to take place on Wednesday 29th November 2006 at Woodbridge Football Club. With bands and DJ's already lining up for the night, doors will open at 7.30pm and admission will be £3.00.
